---- — High school boys golf teams from the area will commence postseason action today in the Linton Sectional to be played at Phil Harris Course.

Three teams and three individuals not on those teams will qualify for the regional to be played Thursday at Country Oaks.

Terre Haute North and Terre Haute South tied for first place in the match a year ago, with North taking the title on fifth score. Sullivan took third to earn the third regional slot.

Sullivan rates the favorite’s role today with all four scorers back from that team, including junior Nathan Pirtle, medalist a year ago with 3-under-par 68.

The Arrows began the season by winning the Northview Invitational, repeated as Western Indiana Conference champs and set records in their final match of the season. They lost only to Vincennes Lincoln in an 18-hole match in non-tournament competition.

In their season finale, they shot 274 to win the Sullivan County title — bettering the old school record by 19 strokes — and Nathan Pirtle established school records by going 31-31 for 62.

Colton Kuppler also broke the old school mark with 67 in the match, while Riley Pirtle had 70 and Jace Moody 75.

Terre Haute South ranks second based on regular-season matches, losing only to Northview in the season opener and to Terre Haute North in match-play competition. The Braves shot a season-best 149 to take Vigo County honors.

Drew and Ryan Cahill have led the Braves in most matches and Darin Pemberton shot 36 at Rea Park to share medalist honors in the county match.

Terre Haute North and Northview figure to compete for the third slot today although North will be without one of its regular players because of a prior commitment.

Senior Adam LaGrange leads the Patriots, while Keegan Roembke and Blake Bennett have been top scorers for the Knights.

Nick Leek has been West Vigo’s top player and lost in a playoff to be the third individual qualifier last season.

Union (Dugger) is one of the schools in the field, and this event likely will be the last in which athletes from the school will compete.
