Metro roundup: Rex opener postponed to today

Fireworks to follow game against Hannibal

TERRE HAUTE — The Terre Haute Rex grand opening has been pushed back to today due to Monday’s thunderstorms.

The Rex will take on the Hannibal Cavemen in Prospect League baseball at 7:05 and a fireworks show presented by the Terre Haute Plumbers and Steamfitters will follow the action.

General admission is $5, while high school students get admission for $3 with student identification.

Intercollegiate athletics

• New app added
— The Indiana State Department of Athletics has announced the creation of the “Sycamore Loyalty Rewards” app to enhance the atmosphere and student support at its athletic events.

“I think the Sycamore Loyalty app is going to be very valuable for our fans, students and boosters,” ISU director of athletics Ron Prettyman said. “The application will allow us to communicate well with our fan base and with our students and will give them an opportunity to have an interactive relationship with intercollegiate athletics.

“I think that will provide some great opportunities to increase our fan base and for our fans to have an opportunity to have a great experience at our home events. I am looking forward to working closely with SuperFanU and as we instill the benefits of the program, it will continue to grow.”

The new app is free to download and use and will be open to anyone who is interested including students, alumni and general fans. Once downloaded, users will check in at various sporting events — home and away — pep rallies or watch parties to earn points. Points can then be accumulated to earn prizes throughout the year.

Users can begin downloading the app in late July, with the first opportunities for points beginning with the opening of the fall season.

Further details about the app can be found online through the Sycamore Athletics social media accounts (Facebook: (Twitter: @IndStAthletics) or contact Blaine Kinsey at
