Metro Sports: Madoff gets win on first day of harness racing

MARTINSVILLE, Ill. — Twelve heats were run on Tuesday’s harness racing card at the Martinsville Agricultural Fair, the first of three days on the half-mile track.

Madoff won the feature race of the day, besting top competition in 3-year-old pace action. Owned, trained and driven by Randall Finn, the pacer had won three straight races in times of 1 minute, 52 seconds or better.

Madoff was second to NJ’s Big Deal after the first turn around the track but ended up a clearcut winner in 1:57 to win for the 18th time and extend its winning streak to five this season.

  • Andy Amey: Just a small trip to talk about this time

To paraphrase Carl Spackler, the heavy stuff’s not going to come for quite awhile. So while it’s true that I’m back from a week’s vacation, it’s not time — yet — for the big vacation column. Trips to Noblesville, Brunswick and Reelsville, while providing some nice family time, don’t really have the cachet to fill newspaper space.
