Sacramento, Calif. —
Indiana State sprinter Katie Wise advanced to the semifinals of the women’s 100 meters as she ran 11.42 seconds in the opening heat of the event Thursday evening at the USA Track & Field Outdoor Championships.
Wise finished fourth in her heat with the top three in each of the four heats automatically advancing. The Sycamore ended up with the fastest time of the non-automatic qualifiers and advanced on time.
The semifinals were scheduled to be run Friday evening, with the top eight advancing to the finals Friday night.
Former Sycamore Erica Moore competed in the women’s 800 meters Thursday and ran 2:01.95 in the fourth heat, which would have advanced her to Friday’s semifinals. However, Moore was disqualified after the race.
• Terre Haute 16, Hannibal 4 — At Hannibal, Mo., the visiting Rex scored six runs in the top of the second inning Thursday night and coasted home to salvage the final game of a three-game series.
Tyler Lawrence had three hits and four RBI to pace a 12-hit attack.

• North girls named Academic All-State — The Terre Haute North High School girls team has been selected to the IHSAA Academic Team All-State.
To be eligible, the team grade-point average must be 3.6 on a 4.0 scale. The North girls team GPA was 3.9. Members of the varsity team were Laura Mascari, Hannah Rudolph, Meredith Egan, Molly Farmer, Kyla Jarvis, Caroline Potter and Sam Dougherty.
• Humphrey signs letter with SMWC — Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College coach Danelle Readinger recently announced the addition of Lacey Humphrey after she signed a national letter-of-intent to join the Pomeroys for the 2014 season.
A recent graduate of Terre Haute North High School, Humphrey was on the Honor Roll all four years. Although she did not run cross country since her middle school years, she lettered in the marching band and music program at Terre Haute North.
“Lacey is a very dedicated person with great inner strength,” Readinger said. “Her dedication and strength will be a great asset to the team and we are so excited to have her joining us in the fall.”
Humphrey plans to major in humanities at SMWC.
