PREP ROUNDUP: North Central boys take second straight win

FARMERSBURG — North Central High School’s boys basketball team won its second game in a row as North Knox was beaten 54-48 on Tuesday.

North Central led 30-11 at halftime and didn’t look back as it improved to 4-8 for the season.

Gavin Stanifer led the way for North Central with 14 points. Andrew Nikirk added 12.

In other boys basketball Tuesday:

• Marshall 70, Lawrenceville 33 — At Lawrenceville, Ill., the Lions began a three-game week with Tuesday's Little Illini Conference victory.

Marshall scored the first eight points of the game and had a 15-6 lead at the first stop and was up 26-14 at halftiime.

Marshall closed the third canto with an 18-3 run, getting 14 in a row, and took a 54-25 lead into the final quarter.

Walker Berner led the 13-6 Lions with 19 points. He had five steals and five 3-pointers and got four of them in the third period.

Taylor Maurer had 13 points for the winners and Keegan Steele had 10 while Thomas Sisson had eight points and 10 assists and Cray Bloodworth added four points and six rebounds to the totals.

Brandt Cochran had 10 points for Lawrenceville, now 4-15.

Both teams will be in action in the LIC tourney on Friday at Casey.

• Robinson 59, Edwards County 36 — At Robinson, Ill., senior point guard Aaron Siler moved into fourth place on the Robinson career scoring list with 16 against Edwards County.

The 5-foot-11 Siler now has 1,479 career points.

Other double-figure scorers for the Maroons (17-2) were Derrick Nicholas with 14 points, Brayden Scott with 11 and Cory Blount with 10. Nicholas also grabbed a team-high nine rebounds.

Robinson led 31-17 at halftime and 55-26 after three quarters.

Girls basketball

• Shakamak 64, Washington Catholic 44 —At Jasonville, Kelsey Pilant had a game-high 24 points as the Lakers prevailed in a nonconference game.

• North Vermillion 57, South Vermillion 29 — At Clinton, Darby Martin, Mikayla Kinneer and Taylor Turchi tallied 15, 14 and 12 points respectively to help the Class A No. 9-ranked Falcons win on the road.

South Vermillion’s top scorer was Bailey Mack with 11 points.
