MOLINE, Ill. —
Cody Brock had already had a successful trip to Moline, Ill., for Wayne Newton Post 346’s participation in the American Legion Moline Tournament.
On Sunday, he made the trip even better.
Brock pitched a complete game to get Post 346 into the Moline Tournament championship game. In the title game, Brock’s solo home run in the top of the seventh proved to be the difference in Post 346’s 5-4 championship game victory over Elk Grove Post 216 on Sunday.
Brock — who 4-for-6 in Post 346’s two games on Saturday — was 2-for-4 in the title clash against Elk Grove. He had two RBI, including the solo home run.
It was the second Moline Tournament title for Post 346. The first came in 2010.
In a semifinal, Post 346 won 4-2 over Wheaton Post 76. Brock went the distance, allowing just five hits in seven innings of work. Zach Milam was 2-for-2 with two doubles in the contest, and Cody Thornton was 2-for-3.
Elk Grove knocked out host Moline — the only team that had beaten Post 346 to date in the tournament — in the other semifinal.
The lead changed hands three times and there were two ties before Brock’s decisive blast in the seventh.
Greg Hannum came on in relief for Post 346 and earned the victory. Damon Olds struck out three batters in the seventh to earn a save.
Thornton, Jacob Johnson and Sam Wolf had doubles for Post 346 in the title game.
Post 346 (23-7) returns home Tuesday as it plays Crawfordsville.
