The Missouri Valley Conference office announced Tuesday that Indiana State junior Carmelia Stewart and sophomore Katie Wise have been named MVC Athletes of the Week for track and field.
This was Wise’s seventh honor of the 2013-2014 season, but second of the outdoor season. She continued her track dominance by winning the Big Blue Classic 100-meter dash in a time of 11.34 seconds. Her time was a meet and facility record. It also ranks her seventh nationally and first in the MVC.
Stewart earned the honor for the second time this year and the first time outdoors.
She had a fantastic day in the Big Blue Classic, setting a meet and facility record in the triple jump. Her mark of 41 feet, 11.5 inches ranks 12th nationally and first in the conference.
Going back to cross country season, the Sycamores have earned this award 25 times in 2013-14 with Wise and hurdler Greggmar Swift earning the honor seven times apiece.
ISU will head to Champaign, Ill., this weekend for the Illinois Twilight meet.
