Metro roundup: ISU freshmen lead softball to split at IUPUI

INDIANAPOLIS — ISU freshmen provided all the offense the Sycamores needed in the fourth inning of a doubleheader split at IUPUI on Wednesday.

Brooke Riemenschneider hit a solo home run, and Rylee Holland drove home Abbie Malchow with an RBI single. Malchow went 3 for 3 and Holland went 2 for 3.

Yvette Alvarez (13-7) tossed a complete-game four-hit shutout to earn the victory.

IUPUI won the opener 2-1 as Morgan Allee’s solo home run was the only offense for the Sycamores.

The Sycamores will return to action Saturday when they travel to Springfield, Mo., for a three-game series against Missouri State.
