Tonight’s Vigo County basketball

TERRE HAUTE — The action — West Vigo’s Vikings (4-6) will try for the third time to get to Mecca to face Riverton Parke’s Panthers (2-10) in a nonconference game.

The time — Varsity tipoff is approximately 7:30 p.m.

The airwaves — No broadcasts are scheduled.

The coaches — Joe Boehler is 68-57 in his sixth season at West Vigo. Charlie Martin is 78-113 in his ninth year at Riverton Parke.

Probable starting lineups — For West Vigo: 5-10 junior Alec Blair, 6-1 junior Hayden Corenflos, 5-9 junior Tyler Hayes, 6-1 freshman Tyler Kernstein and 6-6 freshman Austin Sappingfield.

For Riverton Parke: 6-2 junior Tanner Edge, 6-6 junior Hunter Falls, 5-6 senior Luther Mathas, 6-0 senior Daniel Organ, 5-9 senior Kole Sanders.

Key reserves — For West VIgo: 6-2 junior Grant Daley, 5-7 junior Keagan McClain, 5-9 sophomore Jordan Schaffer, 5-9 freshman Corey Vickers, 6-1 junior Alex West.

For Riverton Parke: 5-9 junior Logan Blacketer, 6-2 sophomore Michael Lowe, 5-10 junior Brogan Thomas.

Team leaders — West VIgo’s leading scorer, Braiden Cardinal, had a magnetic resonance imaging test on Monday after suffering a knee injury Friday night and will not play; sophomore Hunter Voils is also out with an injury. Corenflos is the leading scorer among the Vikings who will suit up tonight.

Falls is the leading scorer at less than 10 points per game for Riverton Parke, which has an injury of its own; Kaleb Walker has been out since the Pizza Hut Wabash Valley Classic four weeks ago.

Recent games — Both played Friday with similar outcomes: West Vigo lost 62-41 to Terre Haute North and Riverton Parke 65-42 to Attica.

Last meeting — West Vigo won 45-40 a year ago.

Coaches’ quotes — Boehler on the Vikings: “I did see some positives [in the North game]. We showed a lot of rust, but hopefully we can figure out what our mistakes were and try to improve.”

Martin on the Panthers: “I’m pleased with the effort the kids have had. We just have to find more offense; one key to that is not turning the ball over as much as we have.”

Boehler on the Panthers: “They’ve got some nice young big kids and coach Martin does a great job of getting them ready to play. They always play us well.”

Martin on the Vikings: “I really like West Vigo’s team. We’re going to have to try to limit them to one shot by doing a good job on the boards.”
