Metro Sports: Vigo County wins Hall of Fame Cup

Play concluded in the Hall of Fame Cup on Sunday at Geneva Hills.

Vigo County maintained its lead and defeated Wabash Valley 21-11 in the second year of the Terre Haute Golf Association event.

Vigo County held a 12-4 edge in the match-play competition after the first two rounds played Saturday at Hulman Links and had a 9-7 edge in individual matches played Sunday.

Winners for Vigo County were Travis Turpen, Mike Wright, Chris Keen, Phillip Myers, Don Alumbaugh, Chuck Adamson, Mark Neaderhiser and Fred Reynolds.

Wabash Valley winners were Larry Griffin, Mike Ball, Tom Rohr, Stacey Vitaniemi, Denny Byram and Russ Campbell, with two matches ending in a tie.

Griffin had a 6-under-par 66 in his match.

Three Valley players who could not play due to other commitments were Bob Kyle, Ryan Luce and Troy Farris.

Next THGA event is the Firecracker Open to be played July 4 at Hulman Links. Mundy’s Game I is set for July 5-6 and the Brazil Open is July 12-13.

Granda, Liebermann post low scores — At Mark’s Par Three, Andrew Granda had a low 18-hole score of 64 on Saturday and Ryan Liebermann had a nine-hole score of 35 at the annual Mark’s Memorial junior tournament sponsored by the Riley Township Lions Club.

Girls and boys ages 10 and under played nine holes, while all other boys played 18. Emily LaGrange and Carson Smith were low scorer for the girls with 36s.
