Chillicothe, Ohio — The battle of the Prospect League’s two first-place teams did not go the way of the Terre Haute Rex on Thursday.

The Rex, leaders of the West Division, fell 9-1 to the Chillicothe Paints, leaders of the East Division.

As a result of the loss, at press time, the Rex (7-5) fell into a three-way tie with Hannibal and Quincy for the West Division’s top spot.

The Paints controlled the game from the mound as the Rex mustered just three hits. Chillicothe starter Travis Lakins allowed all three hits in six innings of work. Chillicothe’s bullpen shut down Terre Haute from there.

The Paints led 5-0 after five innings as Rex starter Brandon Allen struggled. Allen allowed six hits and walked four batters in five innings of work. Chillicothe had four extra-base hits against Terre Haute.

The Rex continue their East Division swing as they play at West Virginia tonight.
