TERRE HAUTE —
Postseason competition for fall high school sports begins Saturday with sectional tournaments scheduled for girls golf teams.
Most Wabash Valley teams will vie for honors at the Northview Sectional at Forest Park. Others will be in the North Daviess Sectional at the Country Club of Old Vincennes.
Three teams from each site and three individuals will earn the right to play in regional tournaments next week.
Northview, Terre Haute North and Terre Haute South should claim the top three spots at Forest Park in close competition.
Northview has emerged as a slight favorite going into the competition. The Knights won the Mustang Invitational and the Western Indiana Conference tournament and lost only to South in nine-hole matches.
The three teams met in a triangular match at Forest Park and Northview was the winner, finishing two shots ahead of South and four in front of North.
Keirsten Mikesell, Karlie Atkinson, Kenzie Mager, Jensen Swaim and Faith Wells have been in the Northview lineup most of the season.
North has had good matches in the past week, finishing fourth in the Metropolitan Interscholastic Conference action and fifth in the Conference Indiana championship.
Freshman Megan Ramer has led the Patriots all season and finished fourth in the Conference Indiana match. Joining her in the North lineup area Mia Ponsot, Carson Smith, Alex Bryant and Alli Farrington.
South’s only defeat in nine-hole matches came in the Forest Park triangular. Sophomore Ali Danielson has been the low scorer for the Braves.
Other girls in the South lineup have been Alexandria Maris, Taylor Monroe, Taylor Baugh and Madison Gruenert.
South shot 344 to win the title last year followed by Northview with 361 and North with 385. North was the winner two years ago with South second and Northview third.
At Vincennes, Vincennes Rivet has been ranked in the top 20 most of the season and won the South Invitational played early in the season.
