Pomeroys win on Senior Day

CLINTON — Five Saint Mary-of-the-Woods players scored in double figures as the Pomeroys won Saturday’s Senior Day game with an 89-82 decision over UC-Clermont in women’s basketball Saturday afternoon.

The game was close throughout as both teams exchanged leads in the first half. However, it was the Pomeroys who went into the half with a 51-44 advantage.

In the second half, UC-Clermont regained the lead in the early stages before the Pomeroys would respond and eventually hold off the Cougars late with the win.

SMWC was led by senior Hailee Rittinger, who scored a season-high 17 points. She also finished with seven rebounds and two blocked shots. Alaura McKemie added 15 points and a game-high five assists. Senior Chelsea Weaver tallied 12 points on the afternoon, including seven rebounds and three assists. Na-Shaunda Rayford (11 pts.) and Mikayla Kinneer (10 pts.) also scored in double figures for SMWC.

UC-Clermont was led by Stacie Lee, who scored a 28 points and earned herself a double-double with her game-high 17 rebounds. Three other Cougars scored in double figures, including Maggie Malone who finished with 16 points.

At the conclusion of the game, seniors Chelsea Weaver, Madeline Pea and Rittinger were honored for their basketball accomplishments at SMWC. They were introduced with their parents by head coach Deanna Bradley and even delighted the crowd with individual speeches of their own. Gifts were presented to the seniors by some of the Pomeroy players as the ceremonies concluded.

The Pomeroys (8-12) will visit Oakland City on Tuesday. This will mark the second meeting between the two schools, with Oakland City winning the first time 102-98 on Jan. 23. UC-Clermont dropped to 17-10.
