RAMBLIN’ RECK: Sumar Classic 100 season finale in Silver Crown series

TERRE HAUTE — Great U.S. Auto Club racing is shaping up for the second weekend in October at The Action Track.

The Sumar Classic 100 is set for Oct. 13 and will be the season finale for Silver Crown cars with 11 points separating the three point leaders going into the race.

Bobby East of Brownsburg has assumed first place in the totals with 349 points. Jerry Coons Jr. is second with 343 and Kody Swanson is third with 338.

Since 66 points will be available in the Terre Haute race, Tanner Swanson and Bud Kaeding mathematically still will be in the hunt at race time.

Sprint car racing is slated for Oct. 12. It’s the new date for a race rained out earlier in the season.

The Fall Nationals are set for Saturday at Lawrenceburg Speedway with $10,000 going to the winner. Three drivers are separated by 64 points going into that action.

Dave Darland is first with 1,801 followed by Jon Stanbrough with 1,757 and Bryan Clauson with 1,737.

Sullivan native Chase Stockon won his heat and took fourth in the 4-Crown Nationals last week and has moved up to seventh in the point totals.

Records fall — Records keep falling in NCAA football.

Earlier this year, Sam Durley of Eureka established the mark for all divisions when he completed 34 of 52 passes for 763 yards against Knox.

Last week, Taylor Heinicke of Old Dominion established a new record for Division I passers and did it the hard way.

He completed 55 of 79 — that’s right 79 — passes for seven touchdowns and 730 yards to rally his team to a 64-61 victory over New Hampshire.

Tom-Cattin’ It — Congrats to Sydney Shrum of Cloverdale for qualifying for the girls golf state finals this week.

Lots of summertime and offseason play has paid off for the young lady.

Jasper, Castle and Evansville finished 1-2-3 in the Evansville Regional to qualify for the state. Jasper won the Terre Haute South Invitational and Castle won the Terre Haute North Invitational.
