South golf edges Rivet on fifth score

TERRE HAUTE — Terre Haute South’s fifth score was the difference in boys high school golf Wednesday at Rea Park.

South and Vincennes Rivet each shot 160 and Owen Valley had 168 in their match played in pleasant, breezy conditions.

Darin Pemberton had 43 for South’s fifth score and Aaron Pea carded 50 for Rivet’s fifth, giving the Braves the victory as they improved to 3-0 in nine-hole matches. The Patriots are 6-2.

Two juniors shot par-36 to share medalist honors: Ryan Cahill of South and Alex Halter of Rivet. Halter had one birdie in his round. Brandon Brian of Rivet had a 38 for Rivet for the third-best score and Cole Parker shot 41 to lead Owen Valley.

South’s other scores came from Drew Cahill and Luke Peoples with 41s and Sam Mimms with 42. Tom Webster had 41 for Rivet and Robbie Waggoner shot 45.

The Braves will return to Rea Park on Saturday for the South Invitational, their third tournament of the season. Tee times begin at 9 a.m. with 12 teams vying for honors.

The Vigo County championships have been rescheduled for May 8 at Hulman Links.

Team scores — Terre Haute South 160, Vincennes Rivet 160 (South won on fifth score), Owen Valley 168.

Terre Haute South (160) — Drew Cahill 41, Ryan Cahill 36, Luke Peoples 41, Sam Mimms 42, Darin Pemberton 43.

Vincennes Rivet (160) — Alex Halter 36, Tom Webster 41, Robbie Waggoner 45, Brandon Brian 38, Aaron Pea 50.

Owen Valley (168) — Cole Parker 41, Matt Patterson 43, Alan Jackson 41, Alex Johnson 44, Corbin Worland 43.

Next — Terre Haute South (3-0) is host team for the South Invitational to be played Saturday at Rea Park. Vincennes Rivet (6-2) plays in the Spring Preview on Saturday at The Legends at Franklin. Owen Valley (4-3-1) plays Linton and Clay City today at Phil Harris Course at Linton.
