OBLONG, Ill. —
Marshall was a 60-51 winner over Oblong in Illinois boys high school basketball Friday night.
The Lions led by 20 points at one time but the Panthers cut the lead to five points in the final frame. Keegan Steele hit four free throws for the winners in the final seconds to ice the victory.
Steele led the Lions with 18 points as Marshall improved to 7-4 for the season and 3-0 in the Little Illini Conference.
The score was tied twice in the early minutes, but the Lions ran off 10 straight points to assume a 15-5 lead early in the second stanza and hold a 27-18 lead at halftime.
The Lions had their biggest lead at 45-25 and took a 48-32 lead into the final period. Oblong used a 6-0 run to cut the lead to 56-51 but Steele's free throws gave the Lions their final spread.
Spencer Shaffner had six points and 10 rebounds in the first half for the Lions. He finished with a double with 10 points and 12 rebounds.
Chazz Lindsey was the other Marshall player in twin digits with 11 points.
Koert Mahler led the host team with 26 points.
