The Quincy Gems scored three combined runs in the seventh and eighth innings to break a tie as the Terre Haute Rex fell 5-2 in a Prospect League game on Wednesday.
Terre Haute lost two in a row on an Illinois road swing. The Rex also fell at Danville on Tuesday. The Rex still lead the Prospect League’s West Division, but their advantage has shrunk to one game over second-place Danville.
Jarrett O’Leary hit a home run for the Rex and Lorenzo Elion had a two-hit game, but Terre Haute (8-4) couldn’t string together enough offense.
Quincy’s Jimmy Huber scored on a wild pitch to put Quincy in front 3-2 in the seventh. A Kyle Crowl single and Huber triple provided the Gems’ final runs in the eighth. All were scored against Rex reliever Tyler Hagedorn.
The Rex return home to play Danville at 7 p.m. tonight.
