Metro Roundup: ISU women’s soccer defeats IUPUI

INDIANAPOLIS —
Indiana State scored the match’s only two goals in a 65-second span of the second period Sunday, downing IUPUI 2-0 in nonconference women’s college soccer.
Sarah Whiteley had a goal and an assist for the Sycamores, now 5-4. She converted the rebound of a shot by Jennifer Milward just 9:20 into the second half, then sent a long lead pass to Amanda Gogel for the second goal at 10:25 of the second period.
Rachel Rudzis was strong in goal for the winners, recording the shutout despite her team being outshot 17-12 and having a 7-1 disadvantage in corner kicks. She was credited with six saves.

-- Engineer women split — Rose-Hulman’s women’s team won a crucial Heartland Conference match at Hanover by a 5-4 score Sunday, then lost 7-2 at Bellarmine.
Sam Danesis of Rose got a key win against Terre Haute North graduate Katie Fleschner at No. 1 singles in the Hanover match.

-- Casey 44, Martinsville 0 — At Martinsville, Ill., the visiting Warriors scored a pair of touchdowns in each of the first three quarters of Little Illini Conference action Friday night.
Sean Craig rushed for 88 yards and a touchdown, Zack Briggs and Taylor Biggs each caught three passes for 104 yards and a score and Mitch Snyder passed for 164 yards and two touchdowns for the Warriors.
For Martinsville, Matt Higginbotham completed 14 of 24 passes for 170 yards, his twin brother Phillip Higginbotham rushed for 55 yards and caught four passes for 58 yards, and Jared Higginbotham caught eight passes for 104 yards.
