Metro roundup: ISU men’s tennis lands pair of recruits

The Tribune-Star

Indiana State’s men’s tennis team announced two recruits Monday who are expected to make an immediate impact for the Sycamores.

Lorenz Ilg of Munich was on the German national team and won the South German championship, the Bavarian championship and the Munich championship as a junior player.

Chris Finney of Scranton, Pa., was the No. 1 player for four seasons at Wallenpaupack Area High School and a two-time district doubles champion.

The newcomers, plus veterans Michael Wenham, Mpiloenhle Migogo, Jon Sigurdsson, Joshua Smith and Terre Haute North graduate Blake Douglas compete this coming weekend at the Toledo Invitational.

Football

• Another Engineer defender — For the second consecutive week, a Rose-Hulman defensive player has earned the Exchange Club of Terre Haute’s Athlete of the Week Award after having a career-high performance in an Engineer victory.

Scott Eaton, a sophomore linebacker, will be recognized at today’s meeting after leading Rose-Hulman with 15 tackles (10 solo stops and five assists) and two fumble recoveries in the team’s 10-7 victory at North Park in a driving rainstorm Saturday in Chicago. The two fumble recoveries led to seven of Rose-Hulman’s 10 points in the game.

Eaton, a 6-foot-1, 190-pound mechanical engineering major, currently leads the Engineers with 28 tackles in the first two games. Rose-Hulman takes a 2-0 record into this Saturday’s 2 p.m. home game against Greenville
