Smith, the state 100-meter dash champion, was fourth in that event — but just 0.04 of a second from first — in a time of 10.71 seconds and also led off a winning 4x100 relay team.
Hamilton placed sixth in the girls 3,200-meter run in a time of 11:08.92.
Anthony Witt of Shakamak was fifth in the boys 3,200 in a time of 9:06.46, while Indiana State recruits Jeremiah Vaughn of Franklin County and Dustin Betz of Northeast Dubois were sixth and eighth respectively in the boys 1,600 with times of 4:13.18 and 4:17.60.
Team Indiana was second in boys competition against Michigan and Ohio and third in both girls competition and combined scores.
Tennis
• Four local juniors win — At Olney, Ill., several local junior players from Terre Haute won singles titles at the Olney Junior Tennis Open on Saturday.
Winners included Lauren Hambrock (girls 10-under), Morgan Cook (girls 14-under), Paige Cook (girls 16-under) and Logan Hambrock (boys 14-under).
Golf
• Double eagle — Chris Keen recorded one of the rarest shots in golf Saturday, scoring a double eagle on the 15th hole at Geneva Hills.
Keen holed out from 205 yards with a 5-iron. Witnessing the shot were Huey Crawford, Chuck Stafford and Ben Roy.
