SOFTBALL SCENE: Copeland’s wins its first Show-Me’s coed tournament

TERRE HAUTE — Results are in for the Show-Me’s coed city softball tournament and Copeland’s are the new champions.

The eight-team affair was divided into two four-team pools, with the pool winners matched in the championship game.

In group one pool play, Copeland emerged undefeated after beating DIY Rentals 12-3, Damon’s Stars 10-7 and Roshel Dentistry 19-13. The Copeland roster included: Dylan Walker, Justin Copeland, Derrick Easton, Kris Foust, Kevin Millington, Lisa Wheaton, Jordan Bean, Krista Himebrook, Heather Keller, Brandalynn Belleu, Evan Schimmel and Jordan Stefancik.

The group two pool winner was the Harley-Davidson squad. Harley-Davidson earned a hard-fought win over Canteen by an 11-8 score and the dispatched the Tech Stars 21-7 and the Sluggers 16-6. Playing for Harley-Davidson was: Trapper Murphy, Derek Eaglin, Kim Klink, Todd Klink, Kylee Anderson, Logan Sweeney, Jennifer Dinkel., Travis Jones, Cary Booe, Carmen Donnenhoffer and Cassie Hedges.

The championship game was won by Copeland’s in a low-scoring defensive struggle. They won 7-3 over Harley-Davidson.

Other scores in the championship round were as follows: Damon’s Stars 19, Tech Stars 4; Roshel Denitistry 20, Sluggers 5 and DIY Rentals 25, Canteen 13.

• City men’s tournament — The city tournament will continue next week with the Show-Me’s men’s tournament slated for Monday through Wednesday at Spencer Field.

This year’s tournament will be a five-team round robin affair which will include Outkast, Pizza King, Tabco/Beef O’Brady’s, Cahill’s and Tom’s Stars.

Monday

7 p.m. — Outkast vs. Tabco/Beef O’Brady’s

8 p.m. — Pizza King vs. Outkast

9 p.m. — Pizza King vs. Cahill’s.

Tuesday

7 p.m. — Tabco/Beef O’Brady’s vs. Tom’s Stars

8 p.m. — Pizza King vs. Tom’s Stars

9 p.m. — Tabco/Beef O’Brady’s vs. Cahill’s.

Wednesday

6:15 p.m. — Cahill’s vs. Tom’s Stars

7:15 p.m. — Outkast vs. Cahill’s

8:15 p.m. — Outkast vs. Tom’s Stars

9:15 p.m. — Pizza King vs. Tabco/Beef O’Brady’s



There will be a new men’s city champion crowned due to the demise of the 2010 champion Budweiser team. Good luck to all teams involved.

• Quartet of teams head to Crawfordsville — Four local teams will travel to Crawfordsville this weekend seeking the ASA MSP Class E North state crown. Cahill’s, Hitmen, Eagles 219 and Spindell’s are among the 38 teams vying for the tourney crown and the right to advance to national play.
