South Latin students compete at convention


News Release

TERRE HAUTE — Terre Haute South Vigo High School Latin students competed with other Indiana schools at the recent state convention at ISU. South is a member of the national and state Junior Classical League. Magistra Mary Steppe sponsors the Latin Certamen teams and is a member of the American Classical League. South’s Latin I Certamen team reached the finals and won third place, while South placed fifth overall in Sweepstakes.

Individual winners include:

Latin I

Will Cammack: Mottoes, Quotes, Abbreviations; Reading Comprehension. He received a first-place blue ribbon in the Constructed Charts division.

Kevin Cao: Geography, Grammar, Mottoes, Quotes, Abbreviations; Mythology; Reading Comprehension.  

Tingyue (Rita) Cui: Derivatives; Grammar; Mottoes, Quotes, Abbreviations; Pentathlon; Reading Comprehension; Roman Live and Customs. Also Creative Arts: Couples costume-Clytemnestra; Girls: Alecto; Sight Latin Reading.  

Chris Ray: Derivatives; Grammar; Mottoes, Quotes, Abbreviations; Reading Comprehension; Roman History; Vocabulary.

Latin II

Chris Dalloul: Geography; Mottoes, Quotes, Abbreviations; Reading Comprehension; Roman History.
