Two Riverton Parke FFA Parliamentary Procedure Teams competed at the section competition for the Parliamentary Procedure Demonstration Contest on April 16 at the Indiana FFA Center in Trafalgar.
The teams qualified for the event March 7 at the District VII CDE Competition for Parliamentary Procedure Demonstration Contest. Riverton Parke’s novice team earned first-places honors, while the senior team placed second at Trafalgar.
The novice team included students in seventh to ninth grades: Megan Marion, Kelsey Katapodis, Dalten Chambers, Courtney Marion, Jessica Organ, Ethan Hudson and Judson Long. The senior FFA team included students in 10th to 12th grades: Matthew Marion, Cameron Frasier, Shelby Benell, Caleb Chambers, Tanner Edge, Ashyln Scott, Megan Smith, Kelly Dressler, Avery Moore, Miranda Dressler, Kelly Combs and Heath Rohr.
Practicing 2-3 times both before and after school since early February, both teams were coached by their FFA advisor Adam Tyler and FFA alumni and parent Tammy Marion. “This competition taught me some very valuable skills when I was in FFA that prepared me for the multitude of meetings I have participated in the real world,” Marion said. “It has been my goal as a coach to teach these skills so that they can effectively utilize these tools as they head into adulthood. This demonstration is a way for the students to overcome their fear of public speaking.”
