South science students place first, second


TERRE HAUTE — Terre Haute South science research students senior Emma Sperry and junior Ryan Chung placed first and second, respectively, in the Indiana Science Talent Search staged on the campus of Indiana University in Kokomo.

Twelve students from Indiana were named Indiana Talent Search Finalists. Ryan won a $600 scholarship, and Emma is moving on in the competition and will present her research at the American Junior Academy of Science, National Association of Academies of Science Conference in Boston, Feb. 13-17.

Emma will be one of two representatives from Indiana to present her research. She will meet Nobel laureates as well as top scientists from all over the United States. Sperry will be accompanied by her science research sponsor, Melanie Huber.


Terre Haute South science research students, juniors Ryan Chung and Krishan Kumar, were acknowledged as Siemens Competition in Math, Science and Technology Semifinalists for their team science research project.

More than 300 students in the United Stated were acknowledged by the Siemens Competition. Only 10 students from Indiana were acknowledged in this national competition and Terre Haute South had two.

All three students are sponsored by Terre Haute South Science Department Chairperson Melanie Huber.
