TERRE HAUTE — Each year Con-way Inc. awards $200,000 in scholarships and grants to deserving students.

This year John Patterson of Illinois Eastern Community College-Olney Central College earned $1,000 toward his studies from the Con-way Scholarship Program.

Patterson is the son of Con-way Freight employee James Patterson of the Terre Haute facility and a graduate of Terre Haute North Vigo High School.

A student at Olney Central College where he is studying engineering, Patterson plays on the college’s baseball team and has been recognized on the Dean’s List.

He also won the Terre Haute Beta Sigma Phi City Council Scholarship Award.

Since 1991, Con-way Inc., a fortune 500 company, awarded $3.7 million to deserving students in all corners of the country.

Patterson is one of 172 students who earned a scholarship or grant for the 2012-2013 academic year.
