Riverton Parke students gather at ‘the Pole’

Special to the Tribune-Star

---- — Thirty-nine Riverton Parke Jr.-Sr. High School students and faculty members gathered at “See You at the Pole” on a recent morning to pray for the school, students and staff. SYP is an annual event that began as a student-initiated movement in 1990 in Burleson, Texas. Since then, the event has expanded across the globe, reaching countries such as Norway, South Africa and Japan.  To date, more than 2 million people have participated.

Riverton Parke’s Fellowship of Christian Athletes organization helps organize and sponsor the event at the school. This year’s “pole” had to be moved indoors due to lightning and rain. Students and faculty gathered in the gymnasium around a pole, held hands and prayed.

FCA sponsor and mathematics teacher Jake Weber said of this year’s SYP: “I was very pleased with how our students responded, and I appreciated their dedication and faith at such an event.”
