Panel OKs $2.3M
for ISU projects
State Rep. Clyde Kersey (D-Terre Haute) said the State Budget Committee on Friday approved $2,335,990 in funding for two projects on the Indiana State University campus in Terre Haute.
During its meeting on the Indiana University Bloomington campus, the committee agreed to allow ISU to spend $1,755,000 for the replacement of air handling units and temperature controls in the oldest section of the Health and Human Services Building. In addition, the committee granted its approval for the expenditure of $580,990 to replace Holmstedt Hall Plaza and the walkways next to it.
“Both projects are definitely needed,” Kersey said. “The air handling units in the Health and Human Services Building are old and the renovation will replace them with high-efficiency units that not only will make the building more comfortable, but also will save on long-term energy costs.
“The concrete plaza and walkway was built 43 years ago,” explained Kersey, “so there are broken sections and, of course, it has settled over the years. That creates a bit of safety hazard for those who walk on it, especially at night, so the project will restore the plaza and walkway as well as perhaps prevent a few sprained and twisted ankles.”
