ISU offers non-credit finance courses

TERRE HAUTE Now is the time to register for four non-credit personal finance courses offered by Indiana State University.

“Long-term care insurance‚” will help participants understand medical spend-down, how to qualify for insurance benefits, and the various types of long-term care policies available. Spouse-at-home rules will be covered as well as the Indiana Long-Term Care Partnership Plan, which provides asset protection and tax savings to individuals. Sample policies from various companies will be discussed.



This course is offered 6:30 to 9 p.m. Sept. 9 in the College of Business, Room 208. Gay Ann Weaver will instruct the course. There is a fee of $35.

Another course provides an in-depth discussion of exchange traded funds (ETF), the reasons behind their ever-growing popularity, and how ETFs may be utilized by the individual investor. Topics include the history of exchange traded funds, the ETF universe, and a comparison of exchange traded funds to mutual funds. Benefits, as well as how to make educated decisions when selecting ETFs, will be discussed. This course is offered 6:30 to 9 p.m. Sept. 23 in the College of Business, Room 208. Weaver will instruct the course. There is a fee of $35.

Addressing the issue of financing college will include a comparison of various college savings programs. An education cost summary including tuition, fees, and room and board is provided to each student for the college of their choice. Want to learn how to live debt-free? Indiana State offers a workshop designed for middle- class Americans who want to build real wealth and become financially independent by eliminating debt. Learn a linear mathematical system that will eliminate all your consumer debt in one to four years, and your mortgage in another three to five years with your current income. Bring a pocket calculator and list of your debts with balances and monthly payments (principal and interest only for mortgage) to develop your own debt elimination plan. Simple money management techniques that will help ensure you achieve your personal financial goals will also be discussed. The textbook will be available from the instructor for $39. This course is offered 6:15-9:30 p.m. Oct. 29 in the College of Business, Room 206. Forest Wilson will instruct the course. There is a fee of $40.

ISU offers non-credit courses to promote, develop, and offer quality education programs to the community.

In addition to these courses taught in a traditional classroom setting, a wide variety of non-credit courses are also available via distance-education from Education 2 Go and JER online.
