Lodge honors principal, teachers, staff of Riley Elementary School

Riley Lodge 390 Free & Accepted Masons recently honored the principal, teaching staff and employees of Riley Elementary School, in recognition of the ISTEP scores of Riley Elementary School students.

At the same time, the lodge honored those students of lodge members who received scholarships.

Three students from Riley Lodge 390 have been awarded $1,300 Masonic scholarships from the scholarship board of the Grand Lodge Free and Accepted Masons of Indiana.

Jaysi K. Bryan, daughter of the late William C. Bryan Jr., is a graduate of Clay City High School and will be entering Ivy Tech Community College in the fall of 2009.

Amelia R. Long, stepdaughter of George T. Sankey Jr., is a graduate of Terre Haute South Vigo High School and will be entering St. Mary-of-the-Woods College in the fall of 2009.

Abigail L. Smith, daughter of Mark A. Smith is a graduate of Terre Haute North Vigo High School and will be entering her third year at Indiana State University in the fall of 2009.

These recipients were a part of 328 selected from almost 500 applicants. All were sponsored by their father or stepfather, all of whom were members of Riley Lodge 390.

The Grand Lodge of Indiana Scholarship Board is one of the largest fraternal scholarship funds in the United States. More than $8 million in scholarships has helped more than 7,500 Hoosier students realize their postsecondary education goals. Scholarships are awarded to Master Masons or their children who demonstrate academic merit, financial need and/or community participation. These scholarships are specified for attendance at Indiana colleges or universities promoting support of our communities and higher education in the state of Indiana.

Those applicants sponsored by their father, stepfather or grandfather member of Riley Lodge 390 who did not receive a Grand Lodge scholarship were awarded a scholarship by the Riley Lodge 390 Dilg Scholarship committee, and were Joshua L. Freeman, son of Charles E. Freeman, Kasey M. Jackson, son of Bradley R. Jackson, Bryan C. Miller, son of John W. Miller Jr., Kaitlyn R. Morley, granddaughter of William K. Morley, Diana M. Price, daughter of Lewis O. Price, and Katherine A. Rompf, stepdaughter of Jerry A. Gaskin.
