A team of eight students from Terre Haute South Vigo High School has tied for ninth place honors nationally among its enrollment division in this year’s Junior Engineering and Technical Society’s TEAMS academic competition.
Results were released this week by Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, the regional TEAMS testing site.
South became eligible for national recognition by posting the highest score among Indiana and Wabash Valley teams after using principles of mathematics, science and physics to assist engineers to pull off a large-scale athletic event, like the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
Team members were seniors Brian Harvey, Swara Kopparty, Arjun Theertham and Ernest Wright; juniors Raj Bhuptani and Pardha Ponugoti; sophomore Sachin Shinde; and freshman
Joseph Botros.
The team was coached by science teacher Daniel Wunderlich.
Junior varsity teams from Terre Haute South and Terre Haute North tied for third place in the state among schools with 251 to 450 seniors. Clay City placed fourth and North Central fifth among schools with 51 to 150 seniors, and West Vigo was fourth among schools with 151-250 seniors.
