Anderson holds off rally by Rose women

ANDERSON — Rose-Hulman rallied from an 11-point deficit to close within three points late, but Anderson University held on to earn a 64-57 victory in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference women’s basketball Wednesday night inside O.C. Lewis Gymnasium.

Junior Kelsey Ploof  led the Engineers with 14 points and 16 rebounds. Freshman Addie Johnson also reached double figures with 15 points.

Freshman Cassidy Cain  freshman Andi Evers and sophomore Gracie Gibbs  pitched in with six points each.

Jenna Wittenberg came off the bench to lead the Anderson attack with 19 points.  Ashley Wuestefeld added 12 points, and Amy Wuestefeld scored 10 points for the Ravens.

Rose-Hulman held an early 13-11 lead on a score by freshman Carrie Morris  at the 13:04 mark of the first half.  Anderson responded with a 13-2 run that put the Ravens ahead 24-15.

The Engineers closed to within five points late in the first half, but a three-pointer by Ashley Wuestefeld gave Anderson a 41-30 lead at the break.

In the second half, the Ravens led 44-33 at the 18:38 mark, but Rose-Hulman rattled off 10 straight points to move within 44-43 at the 15:22 mark on a layup by Ploof.

Rose stands 6-8 for the season and 2-5 in league play, while Anderson improved to 4-10 and 3-4 in conference games. The Engineers host Transylvania at 1 p.m. Saturday.
