Metro: No ISU baseball today; home opener now Friday

TERRE HAUTE — Indiana State’s baseball home opener that was to be played today has been pushed back, according to Sycamore head coach Mitch Hannahs.

The Sycamores, who have won nine in a row, were scheduled to host Eastern Illinois. That game will be rescheduled later.

The home opener is now 3 p.m. Friday, when the Sycamores host Western Illinois in the first of a three-game series.

In other baseball news:

• Rose-Hulman 10, St. Vincent 9 — At Auburndale, Fla., the Engineers held off a late charge Monday to earn a 10-9 victory in game two of the annual baseball spring trip.

Rose-Hulman scored three times in the second inning, four times in the fourth and twice in the fifth frame to build a 10-5 advantage. St. Vincent rallied with three runs in the seventh and one in the eighth to move within 10-9, before Alex McNally pitched a scoreless ninth for his first college save.

Offensively, Rose-Hulman had 16 hits and St. Vincent had 18 in a back-and-forth battle. Josh Hoeing led the Engineers with two doubles, two singles, three runs scored and two RBIs. Andrew Benitez added three singles, scored twice and had one RBI. Caleb Kissel, Zach Trusk and Donnie Waters added two hits each.

Rose-Hulman (2-0) meets 2013 NCAA Division III Tournament participant Mount Union at 5 p.m. today.

• Rose-Hulman 12, Coe 7 — At Winter Haven, Fla., the Engineers won their season opener Sunday night.

Hoeing and Trusk had a double and two singles each, along with two runs scored and two runs batted in. Hank Akard added two hits, two RBIs and one run scored, while Josh Koutnik also contributed a multiple-hit game with two singles and two runs scored.  

John Krasich picked up the win with 3.1 innings of strong relief. Krasich scattered four hits with one strikeout.

Wrestling

• Three winners for Wildcats — At Terre Haute North, the South Vermillion wrestling club got first-place finishes from Rylan Hendricks, Nate Lommock and Jack Spurr at Saturday’s Wabash Valley Folkstyle Open.
