Metro Roundup: Rose-Hulman's Montgomery wins HCAC award again

TERRE HAUTE — Rose-Hulman’s Ryann-Rebecca Montgomery has been named the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Track Athlete of the Week for the third time this season after a historic performance on Friday.

Montgomery ran the first sub-five-minute women’s mile in HCAC and Rose-Hulman history to finish fourth against NCAA Division I competition at Indiana University.

Her time of 4:59.65 set a school record for the third time this season. The mark ranks seventh nationally in the NCAA Division III list in 2014.

The Engineers compete in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Indoor Championships on Saturday at Anderson.

• Two more records — At Allendale, Mich., Vincennes University freshman TaPring Goatee set two school records over the weekend at the Grand Valley State Big Meet, running the 800 meters in 2:16.18 and the 3,000 meters in 10:37.87.


• Games rescheduled —
Weather conditions have resulted in high school basketball games to be called off or rescheduled.

• West Vigo’s makeup game with Greencastle on Monday has been postponed again.

• The Illinois Class 2A girls sectional game at Casey between Mt. Carmel and Sullivan has been rescheduled for tonight. Mt. Carmel will meet Sullivan at 6 p.m. followed by Teutopolis vs. Harrisburg. The championship game remains on Thursday.

• The Casey at Hutsonville-Palestine boys game that originally had been scheduled for last Friday has been rescheduled for Wednesday.

• Monday’s Flora-Marshall game was postponed with no new date set.

• Pairings set — Pairings and schedules have been set for Illinois High School Association boys basketball regional tournaments.

Play begins Feb. 24. Casey is the No. 1 seed at the Robinson Class 2A Regional. Paris is the host team for a Class 2A regional and is the No. 2 seed.
