Pilipovich drives in 5 runs for Rose-Hulman

TERRE HAUTE — Rose-Hulman shook off a first-inning deficit to defeat Westminster 11-9 in nonconference college baseball Monday at Art Nehf Field.

Terre Haute North graduate Nick Pilipovich had a pair of doubles and a triple and drove in five runs for the Engineers.

Donald Stopka had three hits including a double and scored twice, Will Burchett had two doubles and two runs and Hank Akard had a single and double, scoring twice. Jamie Weinie scored three times and Andrew Benitez had a homer and two RBIs.

The Blue Jays scored five runs in the first inning, but Rose answered with three runs in the bottom of the first. Parker Fulkerson, another former Patriot, had an RBI single ahead of Benitez’s two-run homer.a

Pilipovich’s two-run double tied the game in the second, and he added a tie-breaking RBI double in the bottom of the third after Westminster had gone ahead 6-5 in the top of the inning.

Rose boosted its lead to 9-6 with single runs in the fifth and sixth. After Westminster rallied for three in the top of the seventh, Pilipovich’s triple drove in the last two runs.

Rose-Hulman, 7-3, has home games Saturday against Illinois Wesleyan and Concordia-Chicago. Westminster is now 3-8.
