Rose-Hulman's Sutton Coleman nets big honor for track and field

TERRE HAUTE — Sutton Coleman of Rose-Hulman has been named NCAA Division III Great Lakes Regional Track Athlete of the Year by the United States Cross Country and Track and Field Coaches Association, it was announced Thursday.

He’s the third Engineer in a row to win the honor. Rose high-jumper Liz Evans was the honoree in 2010 and 2011.

Coleman and Evans will compete today in the Division III indoor national meet at Grinnell, Iowa, Sutton the second seed in the men’s 60-meter hurdles and Evans the second seed in the women’s high jump.

Coleman won the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference award as Most Outstanding Men’s Track Athlete after the indoor conference meet, when he won the 60-meter hurdles, the 200-meter dash and the 400-meter run while running a leg on the winning 4x400 relay team.
