Metro roundup: Evans a national high jump qualifier

TERRE HAUTE — Rose-Hulman graduate student Liz Evans has qualified for the USATF Indoor Championships in high jump after clearing a career-best indoor height over the weekend.

The five-time national champion cleared 5-feet-111⁄4 at the University of Indianapolis Greyhound Classic on Saturday. Her previous indoor best had been 5-101⁄2 in winning the 2012 NCAA Division III national championship.

She’ll compete Feb. 23 at Albuquerque, N.M., with an opportunity to advance to the IAAF World Indoor Championships in Sopot, Poland, two weeks later.

Evans is currently at graduate student and volunteer coach with the Engineers.
