Rose student featured in Entrepreneur Mag

Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology senior software engineering major Jeremy Clarke admits that he’s “really ambitious” in the June issue of Entrepreneur magazine.

Clarke has launched several entrepreneurial Web-based businesses, including two while attending college. This fact has caused him to be featured in Entrepreneur magazine’s Biz U section in an article (“Who’s Counting?”) that examines college students who haven’t waited until earning their degrees to start a business — or two or three.

Clarke of Middlebury launched SharperResults.com, a Web resource used as an assessment tool, after arriving at Rose-Hulman and followed that with IndyDining.com, a directory of Indianapolis restaurants, during the 2007-08 school year.

SharperResults.com gives parents and teachers a way to help students review for the Indiana Statewide Testing for Educational Progress-Plus, the state’s annual educational assessment test.

The software is being used by many students throughout the state. This year, more than 500 licenses were sold to a school in northern Indiana. Sharper Results also has donated licenses to Boys and Girls Clubs throughout Indiana.

Clarke started his first business, a Web site design company called Vortex Web Solutions, while a student at Northridge High School.

“I’m always looking for new opportunities,” the 21-year-old told Entrepreneur. “I want to dip my fingers into as much as possible.”

Clarke’s businesses bring in five-figure sales, according to the magazine.
