TERRE HAUTE — Brian Wolfe had the two big hits Saturday afternoon as the Terre Haute Rex defeated the visiting Danville Dans 5-4 in the first game of a two-city Prospect League baseball doubleheader.

Danville won 1-0 in a game at Danville on Saturday night.

Danville, which has already clinched the West Division championship, scored twice in the fifth and once in the seventh and took a 3-0 lead into the bottom of the eighth Saturday afternoon.

Walks to Tyler Wampler and Atlee Schwab and a three-run homer by Wolfe, his fifth of the summer, tied the score, however, and the Rex took the lead later in the inning on a one-out double by Izaak Silva and a two-out single by Andrew Cope.

Danville tied the score in the top of the ninth on a leadoff single by Andrew Buddle, a two-out walk and an RBI single by Spencer Herrmann, then turned to Jared Burton — who has allowed just two earned runs all summer with an earned run average under 0.50 — to pitch the bottom of the ninth.

Kalik May greeted Burton with a leadoff single, however, and Wampler laid down a sacrifice bunt. The ball was thrown away; although May was out trying to advance to third on the play, Wampler reached second and scored from there on Wolfe’s two-out single.

Josh Dove was the winning pitcher after getting the last out in the top of the ninth.

Later in the day, the Rex managed just four hits, including two more by Wolfe. Tough-luck losing pitcher was Taylor Horn, who allowed seven hits in six innings.

Now 30-28, the Rex assured themselves of a non-losing season with the win. They have season-ending home contests at 5:30 p.m. today against Springfield and at 7:05 p.m. Monday against Hannibal.
