TERRE HAUTE —
The Terre Haute Rex evened its second-half record at 2-2 with a 4-3 victory against the Richmond RiverRats on Thursday at Bob Warn Field.
Daniel Heefner pitched eight scoreless innings before hitting adversity in the ninth. The leadoff man reached and Heefner allowed three runs.
Chris Bossenberry got the final three outs to earn his third save.
“He looked like he was going to lower his ERA and go for the complete-game shutout,” manager Brian Dorsett said of Heefner. “He really deserved it. He’s competed all year. He threw well. His change-up was working well.”
The Rex grabbed an early lead in the bottom of the first inning. Lucas Hileman reached with a one-out triple and Joe Meggs singled him home.
In the fourth inning, Koby Kraemer singled to lead off the inning and reached second on a wild pitch. Kraemer stole third and then scored on a double by Brett Teschner.
Teschner scored on an RBI single by Ronnie Mitchell.
Kraemer, Hileman and Teschner each had two hits for the Rex.
Dorsett said he’d like to see the Rex capitalize on opportunities to add to a lead.
“We had opportunities. We’ve just got to add on once we got a four-run lead. We have to do that, make it a five, six run lead,” Dorsett said.
