June Taizé prayer service to focus on family

ST. MARY-OF-THE-WOODS — Persons of all faiths are invited to an ecumenical Taizé Prayer gathering from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in the Church of the Immaculate Conception at St. Mary-of-the-Woods.

The 2014 focus for Taizé is “Prayer for the Life of the World: To everything there is a season,” based on Ecclesiastes 3, and the June prayer will specifically focus on, “Prayer for safe and loving families: A time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing.”

Taizé is open to persons of all faith traditions, and is free to attend. Each month, the Sisters of Providence give freewill offerings collected during the event to various organizations within the Wabash Valley. This month, the donation will be delivered to the Terre Haute Council on Domestic Abuse.

Taizé takes place on the second Tuesday of each month. The hour-long service includes prayer, music, time for silence, spoken and silent prayers. The prayer space is lit primarily by candlelight.
