Church offers Dave Ramsey’s FPU
More than one and a half million families have positively changed their financial future through Dave Ramsey’s Financial Peace University.
Agape Christian Church, 1825 Jessica Drive in Terre Haute, will offer FPU classes this fall. The classes will begin at 6 p.m. Sept. 9.
Updated this summer, the now nine-week course provides families and individuals with practical tools to gain control of their finances and set themselves up for long-term financial success. The course meets once a week where a different lesson is taught by Dave on DVD followed by a small-group discussion. Lessons include budgeting, relationships and money, getting out of debt, saving for emergencies and investing.
FPU lessons also include guest speakers Rachel Cruze, speaker and daughter of Dave Ramsey; Jon Acuff, author of Wall Street Journal best-seller Quitter and popular blog Stuff Christians Like; and Chris Hogan, counselor and speaker for the Dave Ramsey organization.
The revised FPU is offered through churches and community centers. After purchasing a membership each participant receives a workbook, Dave Ramsey’s Complete Guide to Money, an envelope system and an audio CD library. Participants will also have access to budgeting forms and MP3s of all the lessons.
For more information or to register contact Michelle Hein at (812) 299-5450.

THE JOY LADY: Captivating, making obedient our minds, word by word
The last part of 2 Corinthians 10:5 says, “We take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.” Now come on, Apostle Paul. Capture every thought? I mean, really. Is that possible?

I know that today is only July 12, and we are four months away from Thanksgiving dinner. I know that it’s hot and you might not want to heat your oven for an hour to bake a pie.

THE JOY LADY: Evidence of our faith is not evident when we know what to do
Sometimes bad things happen to us. That’s usually when we ask, “Why, Lord?” But I wonder, do we have the right to ask that in the bad times if we’ve never asked it during the good times?
The Joy Lady: What should we do when we get annoyed with every day events?
I confess. Sometimes I get pretty annoyed with other people. Especially when they don’t do things just as I would have them done.

The Joy Lady: Important questions we should ask ourselves every day
I recently attended a memorial service at the nursing home where my stepfather spent the last years of his life. It wasn’t a big service, there were no bands or flags or special speaker brought in. Nor was it a service where people bowed their heads in silent prayer as the names of the loved ones were read.
