Sisters announce Holy Week services

ST. MARY-OF-THE-WOODS — The Sisters of Providence of Saint Mary-of-the-Woods have announced special services for Holy Week.

All services are open to the public and will take place in the Church of the Immaculate Conception.

People of all faith traditions are welcome to attend:

• Sunday — Sunday of the Passion (Palm), Mass, blessing and distribution of palms, procession, and reading of the Lord’s Passion according to the Gospel of Matthew.

• Sunday — Vespers, 4:30 p.m., with special musical guests, father and daughter duo Elizabeth Maurey (soprano) and Ronald Maurey, Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College instructor of music, piano studies, on piano.

• Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday — Holy Week daily mass, 11:30 a.m.

• Thursday, Friday and Saturday — The Holy Triduum, the holiest days in the liturgical calendar, with three parts that are considered one observance.

• Thursday — Holy Thursday, 4 p.m. Thursday of the Lord’s Supper: Mass and washing of feet, procession of the sacrament to the Alter of Repose, where there is prayer and meditation until 8 p.m.

• Friday — Good Friday, 3 p.m. Friday of the Passion of the Lord: Reading of the Passion according to the Gospel of John, solemn prayers for the church and world, distribution of holy communion, and adoration of the cross.

• April 19 — Easter Vigil, 7 p.m., Mass. Blessing of the New Fire (outdoors), procession to the Church and Easter Proclamation, account of our salvation history from the Old Testament, New Testament, and the Gospel of Matthew, renewal of baptismal promises and the holy communion.

• April 20 — Easter Sunday, 11 a.m., Mass.

Related music will be sung by the Schola and assembly during each part of the Holy Triduum.

In addition, a festive Easter brunch will be available at O’Shaughnessy Dining Room at the Providence Spirituality and Conference Center from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 20.
