Sisters of Providence retreat offers spiritual renewal

TERRE HAUTE — The Sisters of Providence invite the public to retreat to St. Mary-of-the-Woods Nov. 8-13 for the retreat, “Woodscape: A Week at the Woods.”

The motherhouse grounds at St. Mary-of-the-Woods offers a peaceful setting for quiet prayer and renewal during the five-day retreat, which begins at 7 p.m. Friday and concludes at 1 p.m. on Wednesday. The daily format includes morning gathering and prayer, the opportunity for spiritual direction, plenty of time for quiet and exploration and optional activities each afternoon.

These activities include exploring Providence Spirituality, connecting with Earth, bread-baking as a spiritual exercise, building connections with the inner self, exploring Saint Mother Theodore Guerin’s wisdom, experimenting with alpaca fiber and art as a prayer form.

Other opportunities available include daily Mass with the sisters, prayer in shrines and chapels throughout the grounds including the Blessed Sacrament Chapel, walking and praying the labyrinth, walking the nature trail, a Taizé prayer gathering and visiting with the alpacas.

Sister Paula Damiano, director of programs and retreats for Providence Spirituality and Conference Center; and Robyn Morton, associate director of the White Violet Center for Eco-Justice, will serve as facilitators.

Sister Paula describes the experience as being for “spiritual seekers.” People of all faith traditions are invited to attend.

The cost is $450, which includes lodging and meals. Registration by Friday is preferred. For more information or to register contact 812-535-2952 or jfrost@ Learn more at
