Taizé event features prayer at the cross

ST. MARY-OF-THE-WOODS — The Sisters of Providence welcomes the greater faith community of the Wabash Valley to gather from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday for an ecumenical Taizé prayer in the Church of the Immaculate Conception at St. Mary-of-the-Woods.

The theme for the April event, “Prayer for healing and forgiveness,” will include special access to the cross during the service.

“People can bring their prayers to the cross and leave it any way they feel comfortable,” said Sister Paula Damiano, director of programming, retreats and workshops at Providence Spirituality and Conference Center. “We haven’t experienced this with Taizé. We thought it was appropriate because of Lent.”

Taizé is open to persons of all faith traditions.

The hour-long service includes prayer, music, time for silence, spoken and silent prayers.

The prayer is quiet and reflective, peaceful and joyful. The prayer space is lit primarily by candlelight.

The 2014 focus for Taizé is, “Prayer for the Life of the World: To everything there is a season,” based on Ecclesiastes 3.

Taizé takes place on the second Tuesday of each month.

For more information, call Sister Paula at 812-535-2926, or email pdamiano@spsmw.org.
