Lizzy Long, Little Roy Lewis to perform at Union Christian Church in March

TERRE HAUTE — Lizzy Long and Little Roy Lewis are scheduled to take the stage at 7 p.m. March 28 at Union Christian Church, 5350 E. Hulman Drive.

Having roots in the heart of the south, Elizabeth “Lizzy” Long was born on a farm in Lincolnton, Ga. She began her music studies at an early age, and her interests are eclectic, including Dolly Parton, Loretta Lynn the Earl Scruggs Revue and Fleetwood Mac.

Starting out on the piano, Long soon took up the fiddle, guitar, autoharp, bass, banjo and mandolin, and she has become an accomplished musician, switching among these instruments as part of her entertainment repertoire.

Continuing her quest for success, Long has paired up with Lewis from the legendary Lewis Family. Long finds that singing helps to express her thoughts and emotions — whether happy, sad, disappointed or angry. She says, “I don’t have to answer why, why not or even when — I can let it just flow.” Her voice carries strains of America’s musical roots. He has been nominated for three Dove Awards and has won several fiddle and talent contests. Lewis summed it up the best: “Pull a plank off the wall and she’ll play it!”

Lewis makes sure that no one in the audience gets bored at any time. He has won awards as an entertainer as well as for his banjo playing. Lewis learned to play banjo when he was only 6 years old, and won a local talent contest for his playing when he was 8.

His favorite banjo players are Don Reno and Earl Scruggs. USA Today called Little Roy “a banjo master, truly a picker’s picker.” Little Roy can also be found playing the guitar and autoharp. In fact, the song “Good Time Get-Together” was written to highlight his instrumental skills. Lewis is multi-talented: he sings, plays many instruments, tells stories and acts, making his audience smile.

A love offering will be taken. For more information call 812-877-1187.
