Friends and Family Weekend at church


Second Missionary Baptist Church is hosting a Friends and Family Weekend on Aug. 4 and 5. The event is free and begins with a carnival from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday featuring games, bounce house, dunk tank and more. A clothing drive and school supply giveaway are also planned. Food and beverages will be served including hot dogs, cotton candy, popcorn, snow cones and soft drinks.

Everyone is also invited to Sunday morning services beginning with Sunday School at 9:45 a.m.; worship service headed by Pastor J. S. Barleston Jr. from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and a dinner immediately after service. The church is at 1400 Oak St. All are invited. For more information call the church at (812) 232-2898.


Southern Gospel group to perform


Faith Southern Baptist Church will host a concert with the Taylors, a Southern Gospel group from Lillington, N.C., at 7 p.m. Sunday. The Taylors are a family quartet that began sharing the good news through song in 2006.  Faith Southern Baptist Church is southwest of Clay City on Indiana 246. Revival, VBS planned at Grace Baptist


Revival and Vacation Bible School will be conducted Sunday through Aug. 3. at Grace Baptist Church, 1209 N. 19th St., featuring The Nelsons, Wayne, Hattie and “Danny Boy.” There will be special music; ventriloquism with “Danny” and staff; sermons in chemistry, metal and wood objects; and unique visual illustrations.

Special events are:

• Tuesday, Puppet night (bring puppets)

• Wednesday, Neighbor night

• Thursday, Grandparents night

• Friday, Ice cream night

Ted Pearce to present concert


Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church and Hope of Israel will be hosting a concert by Ted Pearce from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Mount Pleasant UMC, 3050 E. Davis in Terre Haute.

Admission is free. Love offerings will be accepted. Pearce is a Messianic musician from Texas traveling the world and raising awareness of Israeli concerns. He is on his way to Poland.

Crystal Valley Quartet to perform


Farmer’s Chapel Community Church will be hosting the Crystal Valley Quartet during its opening evening of a weeklong revival on Aug. 12.

The Crystal Valley Quartet is a southern gospel quartet based in Terre Haute. They are independent recording artists with six CDs to their credit.

They have performed on the regional stage at the National Quartet Convention in Louisville, Ky., America’s largest Christian Music event.

The group includes four vocalists and a piano player.

The Crystal Valley Quartet presents concerts at churches, school auditoriums, fairs and other places appropriate for gospel music, singing old classics, original songs and recent hits.

The concert will begin at 6 p.m. The church is at 9213 S. Sullivan Place, Terre Haute.

The concert is free; a love offering will be taken to offset the associated costs.
