Sisters’ Taizé prayer service Tuesday

St — Join the Sisters of Providence and the larger faith community of the Wabash Valley for an hour of song, silence and scripture at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

In conjunction with the Year of the River, the Sisters of Providence once again invite the public to a Taizé prayer service in the Church of the Immaculate Conception at St. Mary-of-the-Woods. These are being conducted the second Tuesday of each month throughout 2013.

The theme for Tuesday’s service is “Wasted Water.” Reflective readings will explore how human behaviors affect our natural resources.

The Taizé prayer style was created for all people of faith. It uses candlelight, silence, sung prayer, reflective verses and scripture to produce a joyful, peaceful, prayerful experience.

“It’s amazing that you can have 150 to 160 people in that church and there really is silence. There’s something powerful about a group of people praying together in silence,” said Sister Paula Damiano, director of retreats and programs for Providence Spirituality and Conference Center and the event’s organizer.

Damiano said she enjoys gathering with a diverse, ecumenical group of people at each monthly prayer service. “I really appreciate that so many of our brothers and sisters in faith are joining us,” she said.

The prayer services are open to all, with no fees or registration required.

For more information, contact Damiano at 812-535-2926 or pdamiano@ or visit www.
