New pastor at Memorial United Methodist

---- — Chiyona Bourne has been appointed the new associate pastor of Memorial United Methodist Church in Terre Haute.

Born and raised in Gary, she earned an associate’s degree in early childhood education from Delaware Vocational School, a bachelor’s degree in sociology from the University of Evansville, and a master’s degree in Christian education from the Methodist Theological School in Ohio. Bourne comes to Memorial from Epworth United Methodist Church in Indianapolis.

“My compassion for people of all ages and my varied degrees led me to the deacon track,” Bourne said. She was certified in the South Indiana Conference in 2001, commissioned in 2007, and ordained in 2011 as a full deacon of the Indiana Annual Conference.

Bourne’s passion for mission work led her to the Ilula Orphan Program in Tanzania in 2010.

Memorial United Methodist Church is at 2201 Poplar St. and on Sundays conducts traditional worship at 8:45 a.m., Sunday school for all ages at 10 a.m., and Prayz! Contemporary worship at 11 a.m. Visit umcmemorial.com for more details.
