St. George’s Episcopal

Sunday’s Christian Education topic will be “The Seven Little Letters from the Bible: The Letters from James and Jude,” led by the Rev. Michael Stichweh from Indianapolis. Adult Christian Education is from 9:15 to 9:45 a.m. in Taylor Hall. Sunday’s Letters from the Bible theme will carry through three visits from Stichweh.

Stichweh also will be celebrant for Holy Eucharist, Rite II, which begins at 10 a.m. in the sanctuary.

The church is at 1337 N. Smith Place (on Ferguson Hill) in West Terre Haute. For more details, visit www.stgeorgeswth.indydio.org or contact Kelly Hammonds, bishop’s warden, at kellyjo829@yahoo.com or (217) 826-5439.

Stichweh, who served most of his ministry as a parish priest and headmaster in New York City, retired to downtown Indianapolis in 2005 after “semi-retirement” in Florida.

Stichweh moved to Winter Park, Fla., in 1995 and became part-time priest-in-charge at St. Matthias Church in Clermont, Fla. The church increased in size and a larger building was needed, as was a full-time priest. Stichweh then fully retired and moved to downtown Indianapolis.

Coffee hour with food and fellowship follows the service.

Berean Baptist

The 9:30 a.m. Bible study time on Sunday features Lauren Lopez teaching the lesson for the junior class in the church, the teen class leaving the church at 9:20 for their class in Burger King, and the Rev. Dick Triestram teaching the adult class in the church. Triestram’s lesson will be a further exposition of the book of Proverbs.

At 10:30 the Rev. Larry Lilly will speak on “The Biggest False God.” He will name this false god and tell why this false god is the one mentioned most in the Scripture and also is mentioned by lesser false gods. Lilly will show the antidote to the traps and torment of this raging false god and how a knowledge of the one true God, by faith in Christ, will help all who want freedom from the false god to break the chains of torture and walk tall along the path of life. Just in case you are wondering, Satan is not the biggest false god.

Dick and Judy Triestram will present a special illustrated lesson for the Integrated Family Worship Time. The Sounds of Victory and Charlie Davis will present special music. John Lopez will lead the congregational singing.

The 6 p.m. service will feature a special sermon by Wes Gates. His sermon of comfort for these trying times is titled “Saints In God’s Hands.” Gates has traveled extensively preaching and teaching the Word of God. Having pastored several churches and conducted revival meetings in many states he is a capable preacher and a compassionate man of God.

Heather Lopez will provide special music.

The church is at 6770 N. Clinton St.

Unity Presbyterian

The Wisdom Circle will meet at 9:15 a.m. Sunday in the educational wing.

The Rev. Amy Kindred will speak on “Little Red Riding Hood and the Reusable Bag” at 10:30 a.m. Sunday.

If Little Red Riding Hood were depicted in a modern day illustration, we might be peering at a picture of a young girl in a red hoodie, or hooded sweatshirt, skipping across a parking lot swinging a plastic bag filled with a package of bread and a commercially produced jar of jam. It would likely be very different than the basket of goods covered with a checkered napkin as represented in books of old. In view of current concerns for the environment, perhaps the old ways are indeed the best. Bring your favorite reusable bag or basket and join us for a parade of fashionable environmentally-sustaining shopping accessories.

After the service there will be a congregational meeting. All are invited to attend but only members will be allowed to vote.

For details, visit www.terrehauteuu.org or call (812) 232-1193.

Surprisingly, Jesus teaches that the greatest treasure or prize of life looks at different accomplishments, commitments and desire. In these will the Kingdom of God be found.
