St. Stephen’s
Episcopal
Services Sunday in the historic church at 217 N. Seventh St. includes Eucharists at 8 and 10 a.m. The children’s nursery opens at 9:45. Children’s Sunday is out for the summer.

United Methodist Temple
Traditional Worship begins at 8:45 a.m., followed by Sunday school for all ages at 10, and contemporary worship at 11. Pastor Alan Rumble will preach from the book of Romans 7:15-25. Titled “For I Do Not Do.” This week, Merry Methodist will present the children’s message.
Kids Own Worship is a worship program for children ages 4 through third grade. Children will be dismissed from the sanctuary after the children’s message to attend.
Child care will be provided in the nursery for both worship services and Sunday school.
The church is collecting food to assist the families of the 14th and Chestnut Community Center. All donations many be dropped off in the Narthex in the barrels.

Unity Presbyterian Church

St. George’s Episcopal Church, West Terre Haute
On Sunday, the Rev. Lorraine Coufal will lead adult Christian education from 9:15 to 9:45 a.m. in the parish hall. Her topic will be “Mary Magdalene.” Coufal also will be celebrant for Holy Eucharist, Rite II, which begins at 10 a.m. in the sanctuary. As is St. George’s custom on the first Sunday of the month, there will be prayers for healing after Holy Eucharist.

Coufal was ordained a priest in 1993 at Calvary Cathedral, Sioux Falls, S.D. In 1998, Coufal, originally from Nebraska, moved to Indianapolis where she is a staff chaplain at Indiana University Medical Center of Clarian Health Partners. She has been in chaplaincy since 1975 and has been chaplain in acute care hospitals, regional centers and psychiatric hospitals. She also was director of pastoral care at Sacred Heart Hospital in Yankton, S.D.
Coufal has a doctor of ministry, master of divinity, master of pastoral ministry and master of arts in teaching degrees.
Coffee hour with food and fellowship follows the 10 a.m. service. All are welcome to attend Christian Ed, Holy Eucharist and coffee hour.
Berean Baptist Church

The Bible Study Hour at 9:30 a.m. features Lauren Lopez teaching the junior class. The teen class will leave the church at 9:20 to meet at Burger King for their class. The Rev. Ron Marsh will teach the adult class in the auditorium in Berean this week.
The 10:30 hour will feature a sermon by Lilly titled, “Christ: Nice or Necessary?” This biblical sermon will clearly show that according to plain statements in the Bible, Christ is not only nice but absolutely necessary. People may think what they will, but human thought cannot change the truth of Scripture. This simple sermon may help you to grasp the true beauty of Christ and thereby embrace true hope, not only for daily living, but also for eternal life.
The Sounds of Victory will present a spirit-stirring song. John Lopez, trumpeter and congregation music leader, will sing a solo version of “The Lord’s Prayer.”
The 6 p.m. service will feature another lesson from “Gleanings From Daniel” with this week’s sermon titled, “The Information Explosion: Omen of End Times?” Lilly will point out the Bible verse that spoke of an explosion of knowledge as being significant of the nearness of Christ’s coming. Not only is this verse interesting, but several companion verses give insight as to how we should live with the increased light due to this information.

Community UMC
Sunday school is at 9 a.m., Celebration of Worship at 10.
This Sunday, the church and pastor Frank welcomes missionaries Willem & Beth Charles from Haiti. The Charleses will present their mission and ministry in Haiti as well as reveal ways in which we can continue to support the wonderful things, God is doing in Haiti. We are excited about this presentation and would encourage anyone interested in International Missions to join us this Sunday. Tuesday Morning Bible Study is at 10 a.m. We continue our journey through the Gospel of Matthew. This study is open to anyone in the community.

At 10 a.m. every Wednesday, there is a chapel service for Stepping Stones Child Development Center, however, it is open to the public.
The Highly Energized Anointed Teen & Tweens Youth Group meets the first, second and third Sundays of each month. The first Sunday we meet at the church for a group lesson with snacks. Central Christian Church Disciples of Christ
Our worship service will begin at 9:30 a.m. and include a children’s moment led by the Rev. Rebecca Zelensky. Children (and adults) of all ages are invited to participate. Throughout the summer we are having special music each Sunday by members and friends of our congregation. Everyone is invited to join us Sunday at 4950 E. Wabash Ave. Worship will be followed by a fellowship time with drinks and doughnuts.

Smith Park United Methodist
Pastor Ed Gladish and the congregation of the church invite you to worship with them at 9 a.m. Sunday. The sermon, “Come Unto Me” will be based on Matthew 11:16-30. Just as America has opened its arms to all people, Jesus also invites us to come to him. Traditional hymns and praise songs will create a joyful 4th of July worship experience.
During this month, “the church that cares” will celebrate Christmas in July by collecting board games for local schools. The church is north of West Terre Haute, on Ferguson Hill at 1512 N. Smith Place.

First Congregational Church
The Rev. Donald C. Mullen, senior minister at First Congregational Church, will preach Sunday on “Connected We Are Free.” His message will begin a sermon series on the heart and soul of congregationalism and the fellowship shared by autonomous churches. The Rev. Carlson will bring the children’s message.
At the heart of the gathering of this church, almost 175 years ago, was the spirit of congregationalism, begun with the Pilgrims landing at Plymouth, Mass., in 1620. Founded on the tenets of “faith, freedom and fellowship,” congregational worshippers believe in the autonomy of the local church and the headship of Christ in the congregation.

Memorial United Methodist Church
The church is at 2701 Poplar St. At 8 a.m. Sunday, Partners in Prayer meet in the chapel with the pastors to pray for their work with the church and for their personal and professional needs.
At 8:45 a.m., the traditional service begins. The Rev. Jill Moffett Howard will be in the pulpit this week. Scripture will be Matthew 11:16-19, 26-30. The title of her sermon is “The invitation of all Invitations.” Jesus openly invites us to come to him and set aside our burdens so we may find rest for our souls if we only are willing to recognize and seek him in the unexpected, and realize that we do not always have to have all the answers.
Holy Communion will be celebrated.

First Baptist
A Traditional worship service is at 9 a.m. and an informal service at 11:15. This Sunday, the Rev. Bernie Jackson will continue a summer sermon series on The Lord’s Prayer. The topic for this week is “On Earth and it is in Heaven” with Scripture text from Matthew 6:9-15. Special music will be presented at both services by instrumental soloist John Penry. Both services will include a brief patriotic tribute and the service of communion is also observed on the first Sunday of each month. A children’s story is included at both the traditional and informal services and children’s church for grades k-3 is provided during the 9 a.m. service. Sunday school, with classes for all ages, is at 10:15 a.m. and pre-school Sunday school and child care are available throughout the morning.
Members of the First Baptist youth group and their leaders are in Estes Park, Col., participating in the American Baptist National Youth Gathering. This event is held every four years and is planned for high-school and college-age students. It is coordinated through the National Ministries of the American Baptist Churches, USA. The theme for the 2008 Gathering is “More Than a Week” and it will feature with wonderful worship, dynamic dramas, energetic speakers and hundreds of youth and young adult leaders from throughout the country.
The First Baptist Music Ministry is planning a Children’s Music Day Camp for the week of July 28 to Aug. 1. Children from the church and community who will enter grades 1-6 are invited to participate. The featured musical will be “We Can Praise” written and arranged by Pam Andrews. Other activities include: drama, bells, banner making, creative movement/mime and creative writing classes. Cost for the week, if registration is received before July 6, is $20 per child, with a $5 discount for additional children from the same family. The camp concert will be at 5:30 p.m. Aug. 3. Early registration is requested as the enrollment will be limited to the first 30 children who sign up.

Emmanuel UMC
Join us for Sunday school at 9:15 and worship at 10:30. Pastor Karen Bray will read from Romans 5:15-25 with the sermon on “Paul’s Riddle.”

Our Lady of Mount Carmel at the Carmelite Monastery
The Carmelite Monastery at 59 Allendale, will hold its annual public Novena in preparation for the feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, from Tuesday to July 16. The services begin with Rosary and the Novena prayer at 7:30 p.m., followed by Mass. The Sacrament of Reconciliation will be available each evening.
Come and share in the spiritual renewal of these services of worship and inspiration. The officiating priest and homilist will be the Scripture scholar the Rev. Eugene Hensell, OSB.

Centenary United Methodist Church
The church is at 301 N. Seventh St. We invite you to our traditional worship service at 9:30 a.m. The Rev. Deb Moore Hardin will preach, and Jennifer Shuck will provide the special music.
